Nhatty Man
With a magnetic stage presence and boundless energy, Nhatty Man has become one of Ethiopia’s most celebrated contemporary artists. After leaving his civil engineering studies, he began his career as a DJ before establishing himself as a songwriter, penning hits including Alekafam for acclaimed Ethiopian singer Zeritu Kebede. He later found his own voice as a vocalist with the legendary Express Band, launching a career that saw him front numerous bands and perform throughout Addis Ababa.
Nhatty rose to national prominence following the release of his breakthrough single Amrogne and debut album Man (2011), which blended R&B, reggae, rock and Ethiopian rhythms. The album won the Leza Radio Show Listeners Choice Award for Best Album of the Year and led to extensive touring across Africa, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
His career highlights include performing at the inaugural East African Music Awards in Nairobi, becoming the first artist from the Horn of Africa to perform on South Africa's Big Brother Amplified, and producing the award-winning debut album of Ethiopian star Betty G. in the United States.
Since relocating to Melbourne, Australia, Nhatty has continued to build an international profile. Supported by Multicultural Arts Victoria and Creative Victoria, he released an EP with his Australian band Gara, leading to performances at major festivals including WOMADelaide, Melbourne International Arts Festival, St Kilda Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and New Year's Eve at Federation Square.
His self-produced album Man Vol. 2 (2017) cemented his reputation as a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist. The single Yemegemeriyaye won Best Song and Video at Ethiopia’s National Music Awards and shaped a new sound blending modern and traditional music. Alongside his solo work, Nhatty co-wrote and produced saxophonist Solomon Sisay’s acclaimed Ethio-jazz album Sitota, supported by Creative Victoria and the Australia Council.
In 2023, Nhatty released his third studio album, Man Vol. 3. The single Qimemun won the EngineEars Sounds of Tomorrow competition, earning him a performance slot at South Africa’s renowned Rocking the Daisies Festival.
In 2025 and 2026, Nhatty returned to Ethiopia for a series of major performances, including large-scale concerts in Addis Ababa and a New Year's Eve spectacular at the Sheraton Addis alongside international stars Davido and Trey Songz. Today, he is working on this fourth studio album.
